The R.E.S.E.T Model

When I began thinking about how people create lasting change, I realised that transformation rarely happens in one dramatic moment. More often, it unfolds through a series of stages. Looking back at the journeys of the people I had worked with, and reflecting on my own experiences, I began to notice a pattern. Whether someone was facing a career change, the end of a relationship, retirement, a health challenge, or simply feeling that life no longer reflected who they truly were, the process of moving forward followed a similar path.

That pattern became the foundation of the RESET Model.

Each letter represents an important stage in creating meaningful and lasting change.

R – Reflect

Everything begins with reflection.

Life moves quickly, and it is easy to spend years responding to expectations, responsibilities and routines without stopping to ask whether they still align with who we are. Reflection creates the opportunity to pause and become aware. It allows us to recognise what gives us energy, what drains us, what matters most, and what patterns we have been repeating without even realising it.

Reflection is not about dwelling on the past. It is about understanding where we are today so we can make intentional choices about tomorrow. We cannot change what we cannot see.

E – Erase

Once we become aware of what is holding us back, we can begin to let it go.

For me, Erase does not mean forgetting the past or rejecting who we have been. It means releasing the beliefs, assumptions, expectations and habits that no longer serve us.

Many of us carry stories we have accepted as truth. I am not good enough. It is too late to change. I have to meet everyone else's expectations. These beliefs often shape our decisions without us even noticing. Erase is about removing the influence of those outdated stories so they no longer determine our future.

Creating space is often the first step towards creating change.

S – Shift

Change requires movement.

Once we have created space, we enter a period of exploration. We do not need to have every answer before taking the next step. Instead, we begin experimenting with new behaviours, different perspectives and fresh possibilities.

Shift is about curiosity rather than certainty. It encourages us to take small, meaningful actions that gradually move us towards the life we want to create.

Every small shift builds confidence and momentum.

E – Emerge

As we continue to grow, we begin to see ourselves differently.

The confidence that once felt lost begins to return. We reconnect with our strengths, our values and the parts of ourselves that may have been hidden beneath years of expectations and responsibilities.

Emerge is not about becoming someone new. It is about becoming more fully yourself. It is the point where change begins to feel natural because your choices are now aligned with who you truly are.

T – Transform

Transformation is where insight becomes everyday reality.

Awareness alone is not enough. Lasting change happens when we consistently act in ways that reflect our values and the person we are becoming.

Transform is about intentionally designing a life that supports your wellbeing, your purpose and your aspirations. It means making decisions that align with your authentic self and creating habits that sustain positive change over time.

Transformation is not a final destination. It is an ongoing commitment to living consciously, growing intentionally and adapting as life continues to evolve.

More Than an Acronym

Although RESET is a simple five letter word, it represents a powerful process that anyone can use whenever life calls for change. Whether you are navigating a personal challenge, pursuing a new opportunity, overcoming adversity or simply sensing that something needs to change, RESET provides a practical road map for moving forward with clarity and confidence.

That is why I believe the RESET Model is such a valuable tool. It recognises that meaningful change is not about reinventing yourself. It is about understanding yourself more deeply, letting go of what no longer serves you, embracing new possibilities and creating a life that is authentic, purposeful and fulfilling.
